Mafekin p1 – Signpost
Here is the first page of the new chapter ‘Stranger In Mafekin’. This is when we finally meet the other characters up on the heading banner (the sly fox, the fat cats, the turtle…) so I’m looking forward to bringing them to internet life 😀
As a cute fact, the town name ‘Mafekin’ came from me strolling through the colonial galleries of the Australian War Memorial. Perchance, I happened upon a map of South Africa when the Boer War was being fought, and one of the great British actions against those poor rogues was ‘The Siege of Mafeking’. Swept up in the cries of the besieged, the blast of cannons and the clash of steel, I stole the name in a fit of romantic imagination.
So there you go. Fantasy makes work fun 😛
One thing I really like about Enola is how innocent she can look, and how her gaze quickly turns darker and reveals her true self.
Its a very good detail.
Well, I was gonna say, that sounds just like the town Mafikeng (misremembered by the British as Mafeking). That’s in North-West.
And yes, it was pretty much the Brits’ only military victory against us, but it was pretty decisive.
